Big Day Ahead for Two Dallas-Fort Worth Apartment Projects

One project reaches finish line Wednesday, one tries to get started

One major apartment complex project is trying to get out of the starting gate while another has finally reached the finish line in Dallas and Fort Worth, respectively.

In Dallas, city council members are expected to vote Wednesday on the proposed $57 million "Bishop Arts Station," a combination of retail and apartments to be constructed at Davis Street and Zang Boulevard in Oak Cliff near the popular Bishop Arts shopping and restaurant district.

The developer — Alamo Manhattan — asked Dallas for $11.2 million from the city in street improvements and an affordable housing grant.

Fort Worth

In Fort Worth, city leaders are preparing for the grand re-opening of the Hunter Plaza apartment building. The Fort Worth Housing Authority closed the 11-story building in 2010 because of a bedbug infestation.

Since then, tens of millions of dollars have been spent to renovate and repurpose the building at 605 W. First Street.

Hunter Plaza will now be a mixed-use, mixed-income residential building, according to the city, comprised of one and two-bedroom apartments.

A grand opening ceremony is planned for 4 p.m. Wednesday.
