Bicyclist Recovering After Hit-and-Run Crash in West Arlington

Arlington police are looking for the driver involved in a hit-and-run crash who knocked a 23-year-old woman from her bike and left her unconscious on the pavement.

According to police, the bicyclist was struck at about 11:23 p.m. Friday as she rode along a dark, narrow stretch of Sublett Road west of U.S. Highway 287.

Witnesses reported the crash to police, provided aid to the victim and described the hit-and-run driver's vehicle as a late-model red or maroon-colored Toyota Corolla.

Officers arrived and found the woman lying unconscious on the ground along the 5300 block of Sublett Road, not far from her bike. The woman, whose name has not been released, was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive.

Witnesses said they believe the driver of the car may have hit a curb in a nearby parking lot before heading west on Sublett and hitting the bicyclist from behind.

After the crash the driver turned around, headed east on Sublett toward the highway and then turned south on the frontage road, witnesses said.

Arlington police are looking at surveillance video and, based on witness accounts, believe there could be significant windshield damage to the vehicle.
