Berkner Freshman Fatally Shot Outside Dallas Shopping Center

Witnesses say teen was in the wrong place at the wrong time

A 15-year-old Berkner High School freshman was shot and killed late Monday night outside of a Dallas shopping center.

According to officials, Dallas police were called to a shooting at the Bent Creek Shopping Center on the 9700 block of Forest Lane at about 10:40 p.m.

When officers arrived, they learned from witnesses that a teen had been shot in the head by someone in a car on Forest Lane. The boy, later identified as Christopher Gordon, was transported to Baylor Medical Center in Dallas where he died.

People at the scene told NBC 5 that Gordon was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.  Berkner football coach Jim Ledford added that Gordon was a great, hardworking kid who was always happy, well-liked and would be missed.

A makeshift memorial has been set up at the shopping center where he was shot.

Homicide detectives are investigating the case.
