Beautification Project Trees Vandalized, Ripped from Ground

As many as 18 trees damaged

A beautification project in Oak Cliff was destroyed by vandals.

Over the weekend, someone ripped recently planted trees from the ground while stripping bark from others in a median along Jefferson Boulevard west of Hampton Road.

"The trees represent not only the hard work and money of the Jefferson Median Beautification Project, but also the tireless effort of many to carry water to the trees for 2 years now in an effort to keep them alive.    It's a sad senseless act," the Old Oak Cliff Conservation League said in a news release.

As many as 18 Burr Oak and Sweetgum trees were damaged.

A conservation group has ponied up $500 for a reward to catch those responsible.

There are currently no leads.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Dallas Police Department.
