Battle for Water Between Texas and Oklahoma Continues

TRWD files a new appeal with the U.S. Supreme Court

Tarrant Regional Water District attorneys have filed an appeal with the United States Supreme Court to review an appeal court's decision to uphold the original dismissal of the TRWD's request to use water resources from Oklahoma.

TRWD planned to apply to the Oklahoma Water Resources Board to grant the use of three water locations in Oklahoma. Before filing their application, the TRWD Board sued nine members of the OWRB to invalidate certain Oklahoma statutes that govern water distribution.

They also filed an injunction to prevent the OWRB from enforcing that policy.

TRWD's General Manager, Jim Oliver issued the following statement regarding their new appeal:

"As we have noted on numerous occasions in the past, we have a responsibility to our constituencies in North Central Texas to pursue every opportunity to increase our water supply to meet future demands. The filing today makes certain our legal options remain open but does not change our preference to negotiate an agreement, rather than litigate..."
