Baby Swans Captivate in University Park

Three more cygnets were expected to hatch this week

A pair of swans and their growing family have captivated people in University Park.

Swans Johnny and June belong to the Houghton family. The family lets the swans swim and play in nearby Turtle Creek.

Recently, the swans welcomed baby swans, called cygnets, and they've become an attraction, bringing people to a nearby park to feed the animals and watch them take their first swim.

"They are mesmerizing because they're so majestic," said Jennifer Houghton.

Three more cygnets were expected to hatch this week, so the Houghtons have set up a web cam on their blog, Turtle Creek Lane, so people can watch the eggs hatch and the babies grow.

Swans mate for life and Hougton said they were heartbroken last year when the pair's first off-spring were stolen from the creek.

"I've enjoyed how much [they] love each other and how they work together as a team," said Jennifer. "Johnny sits on the eggs as much as June does."

The Houghtons are hopeful a web camera will deter thieves and allow people to enjoy the swans wherever they are.
