Baby Sitter in Child Death Case Back in Texas

A baby sitter who pleaded guilty to child endangerment after a 5-year-old boy fatally shot himself with her gun has been returned to Texas for violating probation.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office says Melissa Ringhardt was being held without bond Monday. She was arrested Oct. 2 in Russellville, Arkansas.

Ringhardt in February received four years of probation over last October's death of John Read. She was watching him at his home in Vidor when authorities say Ringhardt left her handgun on a table before taking a nap. Ringhardt later told investigators she had been high on marijuana.

Ringhardt in June failed to report to her probation officer and a warrant was issued.

She was transferred Sunday to Orange County. Chief Deputy Clint Hodgkinson on Monday had no additional details.
