Azle Teen Killed in Suspected Hit-and-Run

A family in Azle is looking for answers after their 16-year-old daughter was killed by possibly two hit-and-run drivers.

Savanah Moss was found dead early Sunday along Texas Highway 199 at the Stewart Street overpass.

Police said she had been hit by one car and possibly a second, and neither of the drivers stopped.

"If anybody has a conscience, they know they hit a person," said Kurk Moss, Savanah's father.

Her parents, holding each other in disbelief Wednesday, were hoping and praying to know what happened after losing their only daughter.

"We're kind of in denial, besides the fact that it hurts so bad," said Betty Moss, Savanah's mother.

The pain runs deep from losing their child. Savanah Moss's last waking moments were less than a mile from where she lived.

"Of course I'm angry and I'm frustrated," said Kurk Moss. "But I have every bit of confidence in Azle law enforcement that they will track down the individual or individuals that hit my daughter and left the scene of the accident."

Police said Savanah Moss's parents reported about 45 minutes before she was found that she ran away that evening. Police have not ruled anything out as the investigation continues.

Savanah Moss was a sophomore at Azle High School, and a school district official said grief counselors are available to students and faculty there.

A memorial service for Savanah Moss is planned for this weekend in Lake Worth.
