Authorities Looking For Illegally Sold Fireworks During Holiday Weekend

This 4th of July is going to be loud. With the drought over, there are no restrictions on the type of fireworks that can be used in unincorporated Dallas County.

As the holiday approaches, the Dallas County Fire Marshal is warning anyone considering selling fireworks second-hand that it is illegal and could land you in jail.

"We'll be vigilant driving up and down county roads because, especially on the 4th of July, people tend to buy a lot of fireworks and try to sell them out of their vehicles," said Dallas County Fire Marshal Robert De Los Santos.

Possessing fireworks within municipal city limits in Dallas County is illegal, unless they are in their original packaging, a rule many people are not aware of.

"Once you open the package then you can be fined in the municipalities. That's what can happen and a lot of people don't understand that," De Los Santos said.

Selling fireworks without a permit and in unauthorized areas is also illegal. Getting caught can result in a hefty fine and even jail time.

De Los Santos said the people who are regulated to sell fireworks, "They're doing it by the book. We want to see people have fun, but at the same time we want to make sure it's in a controlled environment."
