Authorities Monitor Dallas Waters for Flooding

The Trinity River is still well over its banks in Dallas and, with more rain in the forecast, the fear it could continue to rise is very real.

The Trinity River is at minor flood stage and more rain could raise it to moderate flood stage.

Trinity Watershed Management assistant director Dhruv Pandya held a news conference at the new Baker Pump Station on Irving Boulevard in Dallas on Tuesday to talk about their flood control plans. He said they are on constant flood control.

"We have crews that are monitoring the levees continuously," said Pandya. "We have crews that are monitoring the pump stations, and we are operating the pump stations as needed. We have been moving trash and debris as needed. So there is a continuous work, routine maintenance, plus flood related work that is going on."

Pandya said they are paying close attention to area lakes. Those lakes have a big impact on how high the Trinity River rises.

"Ray Roberts is about 90 plus percent flood pool," said Pandya. "Lewisville 70 plus percent flood pool level. What that means is they are doing controlled release, but if we get any more rain it could go to 100 percent."

Debris is always a problem when river and lakes flood. They ask resident who see drainage ditches or creeks that are blocked by debris to call 311. Road crews are helping clean debris out, so water can flow freely.

They are also asking residents not to go around barricades. It can be very dangerous to jog or bike around flooded areas.
