Austin police say two people have been arrested after authorities found between 8 and 10 gallons of liquid methamphetamine hidden in a car that officers stopped along Interstate 35.
Lt. Frank Dixon says if the liquid was turned back into crystal, it would weigh about more than 60 pounds and have a street value of up to $3 million. He says it's the first time Austin police have seized meth in its liquid form.
Police believe the drugs were intended to be sold in Austin. They say it was being transported from Mexico and was concealed in a compartment next to the vehicle's gas tank.
Authorities say they will file federal charges of conspiracy to possess and distribute methamphetamine against the two people.
