Austin Businesswoman Sentenced for Lying in FBI Probe of John Wiley Price

An Austin businesswoman is heading to prison for lying to federal agents investigating the John Wiley Price corruption case.

Helena Tantillo was sentenced Friday to six months in prison, three years probation and a $5,000 fine.

According to prosecutors Tantillo, 59, gave money to a consultant in 2004 while she was a managing director with the firm BearingPoint. They say that money was then used to bribe Price, a Dallas County commissioner, for a 2005 contract to digitize county records.

Tantillo was convicted on two counts for lying about the use of the money and about phone calls she claimed to have made with a former boss.

She faced up to five years in prison for each of the two counts.

The trial for Price is set for September.
