Art in the Square to Go On Rain or Shine

Nearly 60,000 people are expected to attend Southlake's Art in the Square this weekend, if the weather holds.

"We are here rain or shine," said Art in the Square chairperson Kris Nelson. "Safety first, of course, so if there's heavy winds and lightning, then we have a plan and places to go and take cover for that. Or, you know, go shop for a little bit and come back out."

A portable siren stands ready to sound if threatening weather approaches, warning people to take cover inside nearby buildings.

People can also sign up to receive text alerts.

Many people turned out on Friday night to enjoy the calm weather.

"Tonight (Friday) it looked like it was the best night to get down here, and it's beautiful, perfect night to be here," said Lauren Menuey, who is visiting with her family from Flower Mound.

Art in the Square is celebrating its 18th year with 160 artists.
