Arrest Made in Mountain Creek Apartments Shooting on Persimmons Road: Dallas Police

Kevin Mead held on $1 million bond following shooting at Dallas apartment complex

Dallas police have arrested a man in connection with a robbery and fatal shooting at an apartment complex over the weekend.

Kevin Mead, 35, was arrested Monday afternoon and charged with capital murder in the death of 26-year-old Marin Deleon.

Police said Deleon arrived home from work and parked in front of his apartment building at the Mountain Creek Apartments on the 3200 block of Persimmon Road at about 2 a.m. Sunday. For an unexplained reason, police said Deleon remained in his truck for several hours with the window partially rolled down.

At about 5 a.m., two men, one identified by a witness as Mead, approached Deleon's truck and opened the driver's side door and stood there for several minutes.

Mead and the other man can then be seen on surveillance video walking back and forth between Deleon's truck and a nearby apartment complex.

Just before 8 a.m., a passerby called 911 and reported Deleon on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound. Deleon was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:20 a.m.

Police said the only people seen on the video approaching Deleon were Mead, who police said was identified by a witness, and his unnamed associate.

Deleon's wife told police her husband always carried his mobile phone and wallet and that both were missing from the truck and that the glove compartment was left open.

Mead was taken into custody at about 2 p.m. Monday and, according to police, "admitted to a role in the murder" during an interview with detectives. He was charged with capital murder and is being held on $1 million bond. It's not clear if Mead has obtained an attorney.

Police have not said if they've identified the man recorded alongside Mead or if they plan to file any additional charges in the case.
