Police in Lewisville want the public's help finding the driver who hit a man crossing a street Monday night and fled the scene.
Michael Singleton, 32, was struck between about 9:45 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. while he was crossing the 600 block of South Garden Ridge Boulevard near Main Street. Investigators said Singleton did not appear to be crossing in the crosswalk at the time.
A short time later, Lewisville police Capt. Kevin Deaver said two people passing by found the man laying unresponsive in the middle of the street.
He was transported by chopper to Medical Center Plano, where, as of Thursday afternoon, he remained in critical condition.
Family members at Singleton's side said he suffered traumatic brain damage in the collision. His mother, Sheri Parks, said doctors tell the family his brain actually hit the inside of his skull, resulting in sheering and at this time they don't know how bad the results are as he remains unresponsive.
"I walk into his room and look at him. He's got all these tubes in him, he's got a ventilator on, and I just break down," said Parks.
Parks said her son is an Army veteran who was discharged for medical reasons after developing Tourette's syndrome and other issues. However, she said he has been doing well and is even engaged to be married.

Singleton's fiancé discovered he'd been in the accident when he didn't return home Monday night, and she called his cell phone only to have someone in the emergency room pick up on the other end.
Parks hopes the driver who hit her son will come forward to help give them a clearer picture of what exactly happened and maybe help doctors to save him.
"Everybody has somebody that loves them, and this is my somebody, and you hurt them, and you need to come forward," she said.
Police have no leads at this time and said no video of the incident has been uncovered, but Deaver said they believe the vehicle that hit Singleton will have significant front-end damage.
