Army Veteran Emotional About Home Renovation

Army veteran Trista Hopkins said she was speechless when she walked through her new home for the first time.

"Oh my gosh, this is real," she said.

The home Hopkins shared with her fiancรฉ Kenneth Neal and their two daughters had holes in the roof, no running water and other dangers such as exposure to asbestos and lead paint.

But all of that was fixed by the time she walked into her new home Monday morning after Dwell with Dignity and Rebuilding Together Greater Dallas partnered to renovate the building for the Cary Middle School cafeteria worker and her family.

Hopkins was emotional when she walked through Monday morning. She said she couldn't decide what her favorite part was.

"Everything," she said. "I have a real room. A real room. A real bed."

Hopkins and her family plan to make many memories in their new home. In fact, Hopkins and Neal will be married this weekend at their new home.
