Officers responded to a shooting call in the 900 block of Highcrest Drive about 4:15 p.m., where they said a homeowner confronted two people who had broken into his home.

The alleged burglars forced their way into the back of the man’s home, according to police, and the homeowner heard a loud noise.

“He confronted them and during the course of that confrontation he shot at them,” said Sgt. Paul Rodriguez, of the Arlington Police Department.

Arlington police say a homeowner shot and killed an alleged intruder Thursday afternoon.

The body of one of the two suspected intruders was found in the backyard of the house, Sgt. Rodriguez told NBC 5. Police later identified the body as 18-year-old Nathyn Tealer.

The other man initially escaped the scene, but police were able to find him a short time later, police said. He was not injured in the shooting.

The homeowner was also not injured, police said.

Officials said the homeowner is being "very cooperative" with the investigation, is not in custody and is not facing any charges.
