A fire at a multi-million dollar mansion in Arlington lit up the sky early Saturday morning.
Firefighters were called to the massive estate in the 2600 block of North Cooper Street just before 2 a.m. Saturday.
About 60 firefighters from 19 units were called to battle the four-alarm blaze.
Crews say the unusual layout of the 12,000 square foot estate made battling the fire difficult. Firefighters believe the fire started in the basement, but say they couldn't figure out how to access the basement for several hours.
Once the flames spread through the walls and up to the roof, the situation became too dangerous for firefighters.
"It's very unsafe in there. That's why we went to defensive mode. Once it breaks through the roof, it has that potential, so we've pulled everyone out and we're attacking it from the outside," Arlington Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief David Carroll said during the fire fight.
The fire was so dangerous, the Arlington Fire Department's Rapid Rescue Team responded. The team is responsible for pulling firefighters out of burning buildings if something goes wrong, but the team didn't have to act and no firefighters were injured.
A caretaker and some family pets were on the property when the fire started, they are all safe.
Officials said the homeowners were out of town, but they have been contacted.
Firefighters were still battling flames at the home at 9 a.m. Saturday, no word yet on what sparked the fire.

Arlington Mansion is Well Known
The mansion in Arlington is fairly well known and was even featured in an NBCDFW Estate Envy gallery in 2010.
Photos showed the interior of the massive home that features three stories and a basement as well as extensive grounds.
Several real estate websites show the listed price for the home as nearly $6 million.
