Arlington Man Accused of Fatally Shooting Mother, Threatening Grandparents

Police find woman shot after she called 911 for help

An Arlington man was arrested Monday night after police say he fatally shot his mother and threatened his grandparents.

Melanie Spencer, 38, called 911 at about 9:15 p.m. Monday night saying she needed help and that she was concerned for her safety because her son had a gun.

Officers were dispatched on the high-priority call and arrived at the home on the 3600 block of Montridge Court a short time later.  At the scene, officers discovered Spencer had been shot.  An ambulance transported her to Medical Center of Arlington, where she was pronounced dead.

At the home, police arrested the victim's son, 20-year-old Johnathan Peter Lannon, without incident.  Jail records show Lannon was booked into the city jail just before midnight Tuesday.

In addition to the murder charge, officials said Lannon will face two charges of aggravated assault for pointing the gun at his grandparents.

The fatal shooting is under investigation and, at this time, a motive has not yet been revealed.

Lannon is being held at the Arlington jail.  Bond has not yet been set.
