Arlington Firefighter Returns Home From Afghanistan

An Arlington firefighter who is also a U.S. Army Guard Reserve specialist returned home Thursday after being deployed to Afghanistan.

Spc. Ryan Pugh had served over a year in Kabul as a military police officer.

Before being deployed for the first time, he had been a firefighter with the Arlington Fire Department for two years.

His fellow firefighters made sure to make his homecoming special.

"Well, today, the DFW Fire Department and the Arlington Fire Department are going to do a traditional water-drenching of the plane,” said Arlington Fire Department Assistant Chief Jim Self. “Then his crew members are here to receive him at the gate."

Pugh arrived at DFW airport shortly after 11 a.m.

"Welcome home, Ryan," said Self, "Glad you are safe. The guys missed you."
