Area Post Offices to Open Sunday Ahead of Busiest Day of the Year

All post offices in Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington to open Sunday

The United States Postal Service is hoping to get a jump on the busiest day of the year by opening up for business on Sunday.

This Sunday, staffers at the main post offices in Dallas and Fort Worth, as well as select suburban stations (listed below), will retrieve the mail from the blue collection boxes in accordance with a traditional weekday schedule.

Normally, the post office does not process or cancel mail on Sunday, but on Monday, Dec. 16, they expect to process more than 3 million pieces of mail, three times the normal volume.  The projected number would make Monday the busiest mailing day of the holiday season.

β€œDue to the holiday, we expect more mail this Monday than on a normal first day of the week,” explained Eric Chavez, USPS Southern Area Senior Manager of Operations. β€œTo provide the best possible service, we are going to collect mail from designated locations and process it at the North Texas plant. We want your mail as soon as possible, so we can deliver it to your friends and family members, in a timely manner, during the holiday season.”

Additionally, due to an increase in packages this year, the Postal Service will be delivering packages on the next two Sundays before Christmas Day, Dec. 15 and 22, for customers of many of the larger Post Offices in the Metroplex, as well as from Post Offices in many larger cities across Texas.
