Area Evacuated After Tanker Truck Crash on I-10

Tanker carrying ethanol overturns, ruptures tank

A tanker truck carrying ethanol crashed in Southeast Texas, closing part of Interstate 10 and prompting evacuations within a two-mile radius.

Deputy Rod Carroll, with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, told KFDM-TV that the tank ruptured when it overturned Wednesday morning between Hamshire and Winnie.

Carroll said the area will likely be closed for the entire day while the area is cleared. The area is about 10 miles southwest of Beaumont and about 70 miles east of Houston.

The driver of the tanker truck was hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries. What caused the crash has not yet been determined.

Carroll told KFDM-TV that drivers should use Highway 90 as an alternate route.
