Another District Considers Allowing Guns on Campus

Another Texas school district is considering allowing its employees to carry guns on campus.

The Killeen Daily Herald reports that the Gatesville Independent School District asked its employees in a survey whether they should be allowed to carry guns on campus. Almost 80 percent of 234 people who responded said yes.

But opinions vary on who should carry guns and how.

Superintendent Stewart Speer thinks there should be two armed employees for every 400 students.

Some respondents say employees should carry pepper spray or Tasers instead of guns.

But several board members say they think guns should be allowed in some form.

Gatesville is 100 miles north of Austin.

Several state school districts have allowed guns or are considering new policies in the wake of recent gun violence.

Cleburne ISD began discussing the idea earlier this month.
