Anna police said an officer was driving near the 2600 block of West White Street and noticed a smell — like body decomposing — at about 2:45 a.m. The officer searched a nearby field and found what appeared to be human remains.

Police later confirmed they found the identification of Anthony Gurley, who had been reported missing, near the remains.

Gurley had last been seen at his job at a fast food restaurant Sept. 18 when his supervisor told police he left his shift early.
