American Red Cross Mounts Statewide Disaster Drill

American Red Cross chapters across the state will test their abilities to respond rapidly to natural catastrophes.

A Red Cross statement says the chapters will join forces Saturday to test how well they can respond to a simulated devastating tornado outbreak.

Hundreds of disaster assessment volunteers will mobilize to assess the types of residential damage caused by the mock tornado outbreak. They will transmit that information back to Red Cross officials, who will mobilize emergency services.

The drill will begin at with morning briefings of volunteers, who will then scatter to affected neighborhoods for damage assessments. An after-action review will follow.
