American Flag Tradition Continues at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery

The group "Flags for Fallen Vets" this weekend will once again place an American flag at each grave site at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

“It’s exciting and it's sad at the same time after you see all the flags in place,” said the group’s founder, Bob Fussner. “Especially when you can get a good view of a wide swath of the cemetery with all the flags placed and a little wind blowing."

Throughout the year, the 42,000 flags are kept in a downtown Cleburne warehouse, where volunteers repair and refurbish them.

The tradition started with Memorial Day 2012, and the volunteer group now places flags at five national cemeteries in Texas and Florida.

The Memorial Day Ceremony at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery will be held Monday at 11 a.m.
