American Airlines Teams Up With Celebs for Afghan Mission

American Airlines is sharing travel photos from a trip to Afghanistan last month.

The Fort Worth-based airline teamed up with actor Gary Sinise, model Leeann Tweeden, actress Kristy Swanson and comedian Kevin Farley for a trip to visit U.S. soldiers and Afghan families in the war torn country.

Sinise, who's appeared in "Forrest Gump," "Apollo 13," and the television drama CSI, performed for U.S. troops with his "Lt. Dan Band" at three military bases while delivering humanitarian aid to local children.

American Airlines Director of Veterans Initiatives, Jim Palmersheim accompanied the group on an AA flight to Germany where the entourage boarded a military plane for the flight to Afghanistan.  Palmersheim, Sinise and company delivered 7,500 supply kits to Afghan children provided by an international relief organization.

The airline also handed out a special gift -- a free airline ticket -- to the soldier who wrote to Sinise describing the needs in remote parts of Afghanistan.
