American Airlines Mechanic Celebrates 75 Years with Company

A New York man has set a record that will likely never be broken.

The Guinness Book of World Records honored 92-year-old Azreil "Al" Blackman Monday for having the "longest career as an airline mechanic," working for American Airlines for 75 years.

That's right. He's 92, and still working.

But that's not the only honor that came Blackman's way during a party in New York City.

The Fort Worth-based airline dedicated a Boeing 777-200 to him.

It features Blackman's signature and a design painted in his honor just inside the boarding door.

"Well, I feel very honored that they did that," Blackman said. "And, ah, I hope I have many more years with the company. But that's not up to me. That's up to the man upstairs. The first thing I do when I get up in the morning, I say 'thank you for another day.'"

Blackman and his family took the inaugural flight.

And while most people would mull retirement in their 90s, not Blackman.

"You're working among people that you work with for many years - friends, coworkers - and that's, that's good," he said. "It's a good feeling. If I didn't do this. what would I do? Sit home and watch the tube? I can't do that."
