American Airlines Employees Accused of Smuggling Tons of Drugs

Cocaine, heroin smuggled from Puerto Rico to U.S., DEA says

Eighteen American Airlines employees are under federal investigation after being accused of smuggling cocaine into the country on American Airlines flights.

Agents with the Drug Enforcement Agency said the employees helped smuggle 14 tons of cocaine and heroin from Puerto Rico into the United States.

The DEA said the employees used their status as airport workers to get the drugs through security for a decade.

Federal agents arrested more than 30 people Wednesday, including one employee at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

Most of the arrests were in Puerto Rico.
