Amateurs Barrel Through Fort Worth Stock Show

The Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo will be done before you know it this week.

The same could be said for those competing in one of the show's most entertaining events.

The best of the best can do it in just 15 seconds, guiding their horses around three barrels at high speed without knocking the barrels over.

The barrel races excitement came to a head on Thursday evening with the Jud Little Ranch “Fast Five” in Justin Arena.

Competitors can go as fast as 30 miles per hour and some are as young as 10-years-old.

It's a sport that requires a lot of training for the rider and the horse and it's not for the faint of heart.

"Your horse has to have a big heart," said barrel racer Kathy Warren. "If you're pretty good at this, your horse has to have a big heart and so do you."

Warren should know, she's been in the Fast Five several times in recent years and come away victorious.

She'll also be taking part in the polebending competition on Wednesday, two of the fastest and most agile equine sports you can find at the Stock Show.
