Adamson High School Football Player Named Sports Illustrated's Athlete of the Month

Adamson High School is recognizing one of its football players who was named one of Sports Illustrated's High School Athletes of the Month.

Sports Illustrated along with the Marine Corp will be at the Adamson High School basketball game Tuesday, Nov. 18 to honor 17-year-old Josh Derrough-Harvey.

Derrough-Harvey lost his father to domestic violence in September.  The team had recently taken a pledge to stand up to violence at home at the time of the incident.

Derrough-Harvey has now made his team's project a life mission.

"I didn't really think much of it," he said. "But now that my dad died because of domestic violence it really brought my attention to the situation than I had before."

According to the Cedar Hill Police Department, Derrough-Harvey's father, 32-year-old Kamau Harvey, shot at his ex-girlfriend before fatally shooting himself. Adamson's head football coach Josh Ragsdale had to pull him aside and break the news of his father's death before a game.

Derrough-Harvey is the High School Athlete of the Month in Sports Illustrated's current issue.

He will be honored during halftime of the game starting at 8 p.m.
