A West Texas police officer has quit after being arrested in Fort Worth on charges of public intoxication and firing a gun in a public place.
Abilene police Chief Stan Standridge says 24-year-old Officer Cory Ray Valencia resigned Tuesday. Valencia had served on the Abilene force for just over a year and was still on employment probation.
A Fort Worth police officer working off-duty security arrested Valencia early Monday on suspicion of public intoxication and discharging a firearm in a municipality. Both charges are misdemeanors. Police say a single gunshot was fired into the air in downtown Fort Worth. Nobody was hurt.
Tarrant County jail records Wednesday did not list Valencia as an inmate.
Valencia couldn't immediately be reached for comment. A publicly listed Abilene phone number was not working.
