Abbott Wants New Abortion Limits Following Undercover Video

Governor also wants to pull all state and local funding from Planned Parenthood

Gov. Greg Abbott is calling on the Legislature to approve several new abortion restrictions -- even though Texas already has some of the nation's toughest limits on the procedure.

Lawmakers don't reconvene until 2017, unless Abbott calls a special session.

Still, in a statement Friday, the Republican said he'd like laws changed to make performing partial-birth abortions a state felony. He also wants to pull all state and local funding from Planned Parenthood, a group that's already a frequent target for legislators.

And Abbott wants the availability of adoption services expanded and to "eliminate and criminalize" fetal tissue sales, which is already illegal.

His announcement comes weeks after an anti-abortion group released an undercover video alleging fetal organ sales, which activists say was shot inside a Houston Planned Parenthood clinic.
