A “LOT” Of Fun: New Mansfield Outdoor Venue Makes Debut

If you've driven along S. Main Street in Mansfield lately, you've probably noticed there's a lot happening there — "The LOT" to be exact.

The new outdoor venue celebrated its grand opening Saturday, April 30 with a show by country group Sawyer Brown.

"Everybody really wants something like this to call their own," said Justin Gilmore, a member of The LOT board and its architect. "They want a place to come hang out with their neighbors or watch a movie with the kids running around in the background. And that's really what everybody is excited about."

The LOT will host concerts, movies, and other events throughout the year. It can accommodate about 2,000 people.

The project had been a pipe dream for Gilmore and his fellow board members for years. They say they couldn't have picked a better time to make their vision a reality.

"Mansfield is in the middle of a revitalization and this will be a huge catalyst for part of that vision," said Daryle Perez, who is also on The LOT board. "We're very excited that it's going to help to bring people downtown."

The City of Mansfield agreed to lease the land The LOT sits on. The board then raised the money to construct the venue.

"It's truly been a community effort," said Perez.

They can't wait for the public to get their first taste.

"It's going to be a lot of fun," said Gilmore.

Saturday's show begins at 5:00pm. Tickets are $45 and can be purchased on The LOT's website.

Gilmore says they plan to host many free events at The LOT, but are using this first show as fundraiser to help them pay for future performances.
