8 Arrested in California-to-Texas Mailed Marijuana Case

Investigators say they've broken up a Houston-area mailed marijuana ring in which drugs from California were sent to Texas via the U.S. Postal Service.

Officials say recent raids in Fort Bend and Harris counties led to eight suspected gang members arrested on drug trafficking and money laundering counts.

Authorities on Wednesday outlined the scheme in which the Houston-area men allegedly were mailed more than 1,000 pounds of hydroponically grown marijuana from California. Officials say the proceeds topped $300,000.

The Oct. 20 raids also netted more than a dozen firearms, body armor, cash, jewelry and narcotics.

Further details weren't immediately released about the process to mail the marijuana, how much was sent at a time and where it came from in California.
