The driver of a sport utility vehicle has been charged with intoxication assault and DWI after his vehicle rolled over Monday injuring seven people, Arlington police said.

Police said the single-vehicle wreck happened at about 2:45 a.m. as Juan Manuel Amaya was exiting Arkansas Lane from southbound Highway 360.

The Chevrolet Tahoe flipped several times, ejected six of the passengers, and landed in a shopping center parking lot in the 2300 block of South Watson Rd.

When police arrived they found the driver and front right passenger still restrained and trapped inside the vehicle.

Two severely injured people went to the hospital by CareFlite. Five others were transported by ambulance.  Three are being treated for critical head injuries, police said.

Amaya was treated for minor injuries and then arrested.  Police said that this is his second DWI offense.
