66 Pounds of Cocaine Washes Ashore Galveston Beaches

A sixth package of narcotics has washed ashore in Galveston the past week.

Houston media outlets report 66 pounds of cocaine in 30 individually wrapped bundles were found Monday by the Galveston Police Department. According to authorities, the drugs could have a street value of more than $3.5 million.

The cocaine found Monday was stamped with a dolphin, indicating they belonged to the Gulf Cartel.

Police said of the six bundles of narcotics that have washed ashore in the past week, two contained cocaine.

Sgt. Joshua Schirard said drug cartels sometimes sink their shipments underwater and mark them with a buoy so they can be picked up by another crew. Sometimes traffickers throw the loads overboard when being pursued by law enforcement.
