A 48-year-old suburban Dallas man convicted six times of driving drunk has surrendered to begin serving a 40-year prison term after fleeing custody during his latest trial.

According to a Monday statement from the Collin County district attorney's office, Richard Davis Callaway of Plano failed to return from a lunch recess after hearing all of the evidence against him March 7.

State District Judge Ray Wheless completed the trial without him, found him guilty and sentenced him to 40 years in prison.

Callaway turned himself in to the Collin County Sheriff's Office on Monday morning.
