51,000 Pounds of Soybeans Spill on I-35 in Waco

Interstate 35 in Waco was closed for hours after 51,000 pounds of soybeans spilled onto the roadway.

An 18-wheeler carrying the soybeans was involved in a crash with two other semis and two cars at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday near mile marker 334 on I-35, according to NBC affiliate KCEN.

"I think somebody was stopped along the interstate and the UPS truck ahead of me had to slow down, he said he was almost completely stopped and I didn't stop in time, and I swerved to miss him," said truck driver John Burns. "He hit him anyway, and I hit another truck and hit the car."

After the crash, the big rig started slowly leaking soybeans all over the interstate.

No injuries were reported.

Police said all of the southbound lanes reopened at about 6:15 p.m. Thursday.
