32 Texas Water Suppliers Face Water Shortages

More than 30 Texas water suppliers could run out of drinking water in 45 to 90 days as the drought in the state worsens.

The most severe situations are for suppliers serving towns and other users in West and Northwest Texas, areas with the two driest drought designations.

Some West Texas areas are now drier than the 1930s Dust Bowl.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality says 11 water suppliers could run out in 45 days and 21 others could run dry in 90 days.

Statewide, 387 suppliers have imposed voluntary restrictions on users while 778 have announced mandatory restrictions.

Relief could be on the way, though, as weather officials monitor an El Nino system in the Pacific Ocean that could bring wetter conditions later this year.
