3 North Texas High Schools Make The Grade

U.S. News and World Reports came out with its list of the best high schools in the country and three North Texas high schools ranked in the top 100.

In the "Gold Medal List" are School of Science and Engineering in Dallas, which ranked 18th, School for the Talented and Gifted in Dallas, which ranked 28th, and coming in 81st is Highland Park High School.

U.S. News shined the light on more than 21,000 public high schools in 48 states and used a three-step process to determine the best high schools.

The first step determined whether each school's students were performing better than the average student in the state.

For those schools that made it past the first step, the second step determined whether the school's least-advantaged students (black, Hispanic, and low income) were performing better than average for similar students in the state.

Schools that made it through the first two steps became eligible to be judged nationally on the final step, college-readiness performance, using Advanced Placement and/or International Baccalaureate test data as the benchmarks for success.
