Arrest Made After 2-Year-Old Child Left in Hot Car in Grand Prairie

Police have arrested 60-year-old Maritza Charles for leaving a child inside of a hot car in Grand Prairie.

Grand Prairie police responded at about 3 p.m. on June 22 to a shopping center near State Highway 360 and Camp Wisdom Road, where they said an elderly relative who was watching the 2-year-old girl had forgotten about the child in the backseat when going into a store.

The relative was inside for a brief time before remembering the child and calling for help, police said.

Medics transported the young girl to Medical Center Arlington, where she was responsive. She was later taken to Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth for further treatment.

There has been no updates regarding the status of the child and her identity will not be released.

Police said Charles was charged with abandoning or endangering a child and will be placed on bond set at $10,000.
