Two Indiana brothers have been sentenced in a synthetic marijuana ring involving North Texas smoke shops and convenience stores.
Federal prosecutors say 44-year-old Barry Bays and his brother, 28-year-old Jerad Coleman, were sentenced Thursday following their October convictions on multiple felony offenses. Bays was sentenced to just over 35 years in prison while Coleman was sentenced to just over 15 years.
They were also ordered to pay about $7.3 million, which constitutes the proceeds from the conspiracy.
Bays and Coleman had been convicted of conspiracy to defraud the Food and Drug Administration, conspiracy to commit mail fraud and conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance analogue. Bays was also convicted of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and using a communication facility to facilitate a drug felony.
