2 Rare Clouded Leopard Cubs Born at Houston Zoo

The Houston Zoo has announced the birth of two rare clouded leopard cubs.

Zoo officials say the endangered male cubs were born last Friday and are doing well.

It's the first birth for the mother, 2-year-old Suksn. The father is named Tarak. The adult clouded leopards have lived at the Houston Zoo since 2012.

Officials on Monday said zookeepers for now will hand-raise the cubs, which is the current practice by experts to ensure survival of the young creatures. The cubs will remain behind the scenes for several months.

The clouded leopard is named for its spotted coat. Such cats usually can be found in an area ranging from the foothills of the Himalayas down the islands of Sumatra and Borneo in Southeast Asia.
