2 Officers Shot in West Texas Standoff

Authorities say two Odessa police officers were shot while attempting to serve a warrant at an apartment complex in the West Texas city, and a nine-hour standoff ended with the suspect being taken into custody.

City spokeswoman Andrea Goodson said the officers were being treated at a hospital Wednesday.

Police spokesman Cpl. Steve LeSueur identified the injured officers as Sgt. Pete Gonzales and Officer Cory Wester. Both were listed in fair condition.

LeSueur said the officers went to the apartment around 11:30 a.m., then exchanged gunfire with the suspect at about 11:55 a.m. The Odessa American reports the suspect was taken into custody at about 9 p.m.

Roads were blocked off in the neighborhood amid the standoff.

The Texas Rangers will take over the criminal investigation.
