2 Charged After Deer Slain Within New Braunfels City Limits

Police investigating reports of gunfire near downtown New Braunfels have arrested two men who had three dead deer in their truck.

Comal County jail records show 25-year-old Eric Johnston and 39-year-old Anthony Castillo were being held Wednesday. Both are charged with misdemeanor hunting deer at night and hunting from a vehicle on a public roadway.

Online records don't list attorneys for the men, who were arrested early Tuesday with bond set at $6,000 each.

The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department says about 30 rounds were fired near two parks. Capt. Jeff Carter says the deaths of two bucks and a doe were apparently an "indiscriminate thrill killing." A rifle was found in the vehicle.

New Braunfels is a city of about 63,000, located 25 miles northeast of San Antonio.
