Fire officials say 18 children have been taken to a Houston-area hospital as a precaution after a small fire erupted in a school bus.

The fire broke out Thursday morning as students were being driven to Northwest Preparatory Academy in the Houston suburb of Humble.

Fire Chief Gary Outlaw told the Houston Chronicle the fire was quickly extinguished.

Outlaw says all the children got off the bus safely and no one was hurt. He says the 18 students were taken to an area hospital as a precaution.
