15-Year-Old Student Murdered In Wylie

Two Teens Arrested; Victim Attended Wylie East High School.

Police in Wylie arrested two 14-year-old boys for the killing of 15-year-old Nahum Martinez.

Saturday at 5:30 a.m., the Wylie East High School student was found along the road in the 600 block of Linden Avenue in Wylie.  Emergency Crews determined Martinez had been shot and killed.

In a statement, Wylie Police said the investigation led to the arrest of the two 14-year-olds.  Both were taken into custody in the 400 block of Oxford Drive, near where Martinez's body was found. Both boys are charged with Murder.  Because of their age, the suspects' names were not released.

Police also recovered evidence in the case. "During the initial investigation and search of the area where the victim’s body was located, a gun was found in an open field that is believed to be associated with the offense," the statement said. "Other items of evidentiary value associated with the offense were also located in the same area."

Martinez attended Wylie East High School, where he was a cross country runner.  There were be a prayer vigil Saturday evening for Martinez.

Neighbors are saddened by the news. "It's sad to know that something like that can happen to pretty much anybody," Matt Waycaster said. 

The Wylie ISD released this statement: "Our thoughts and prayers are with the Martinez family as they deal with this tragedy.  Nahum was good student and teammate and will be missed at Wylie East.  As part of WISD's crisis management plan, we will have additional counselors available on Monday to help students and staff deal with this tragedy."
