13-Year-Old Carrollton Girl Dies of Flu

A memorial has been placed outside a Lewisville school for a seventh grade student who died from the flu on Saturday.

Lydia Kizziar, 13, from Carrollton, died from influenza Saturday at Children’s Medical Center in Plano.

“Everyone’s shocked to see it,” said Karen Mulholland, whose 9-year-old daughter attends Founders Classical Academy with Kizziar. "It’s a scary thought, you know, that could be your child."

A makeshift memorial was created outside the school building honoring Kizziar.

“I just think it's heartbreaking as a mom,” said Lisa Ragsdale, who has two children at Founders Classical Academy. “It's just disheartening to see that something like this, the flu, can take a life like this. It's really sad."

A memorial service for Kizziar will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Freedom Life Church in Carrollton.

On Tuesday, the child's father released the following statement to the media.

"Our family has suffered the loss of a precious daughter from influenza, and we would encourage everyone to be aware of its dangers and take appropriate precautions during flu season.  My family are declining interviews and ask that you respect our privacy as celebrate her life and mourn her passing," said Max Kizziar, in a statement..
