Arlington police said an armored car security guard was servicing the ATM at the Bank of America on the 4200 block of West Green Oaks Boulevard when he was approached by a man โ€” later identified as James Garrett โ€” on foot at about 10:45 a.m.

Police said Garrett sprayed an unspecified chemical at the guard and was soon confronted by a second guard who fired multiple shots at the man, striking him at least once in the abdomen.

Garrett was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in serious condition. He remains in the hospital as of Wednesday morning.

No other injuries were reported.

Police said the use of force by the guard will be investigated.
